Beginners Pottery Course.
No Experience Needed
The Beginners Course is the perfect introduction to hand-built ceramics.
You’ll learn the fundamental techniques needed to begin creating your own ceramic pieces, including:
- Slab building – rolling and decorating clay slabs before constructing them into finished forms
- Coil building – building forms using coils of clay to create a wide variety of shapes
- Press moulding – using moulds as a starting point for bowls, platters and other forms
- Texture and decoration – experimenting with pattern, surface and decorative techniques
- Glazing – learning how glaze can introduce colour, texture and individual character to your finished pieces
During the course, these techniques are brought together to create pieces such as a platter, dish and small milk jug or mug. No previous pottery experience is necessary. Everything is taught in manageable stages with demonstrations, individual help and guidance throughout. Students who continue beyond the Beginners Course can begin developing their own projects, including vessels, bowls, sculpture and wall pieces.

One-Lesson Pottery Experience
A fun introduction to pottery where children decorate their own ceramic mug. The finished piece is fired in the kiln and can be collected once complete.
Two-Lesson Pottery Course
During the first lesson, students create their own ceramic pieces according to their interests – from mugs, plates and bowls to animals and other imaginative forms.
In the second lesson, they return to decorate their work with colourful glazes before the pieces are kiln-fired.
